Reconciliation Action Plan

At Cannington Community College, our vision for reconciliation is to build a school community that is respectful, inclusive, and committed to strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. We believe reconciliation is a shared responsibility and an ongoing journey that shapes the way we learn, work, and grow together.

Our Commitment to Reconciliation

Our College community is dedicated to:

  • Acknowledging First Nations Peoples
We actively recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and the Traditional Custodians of the Lands and Waters across this country. We honour the richness, strength, and resilience of the world’s oldest continuing cultures.
  • Acknowledging True Histories
We recognise the truth of Australia’s history, including the injustices of colonisation and the ongoing impacts of these injustices on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At the same time, we celebrate the continued strengths, cultural knowledge, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voices
We provide opportunities for First Nations voices to be heard, and we encourage our non-Indigenous students, staff, and families to engage in active and respectful listening.
  • Promoting Unity and Healing
We are committed to open communication and collaboration between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and non-Indigenous peoples. By working side by side, we aim to heal the past, embrace truth-telling, and create positive change for a shared and inclusive future.
  • Respecting Cultures and Languages
We deeply value the diverse histories, languages, and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These traditions and perspectives are an integral part of Australia’s identity and are respected within our school community.
  • Honouring Noongar Country
Cannington Community College stands proudly on Whadjuk Noongar Country. We respect and care for this Land, and we are open to learning from Noongar knowledge and traditions about how best to nurture and sustain our environment.
  • Building an Inclusive Future
We strive for equity, equality, and opportunity for all people. Our vision is of an inclusive Australia free from racism, where fairness, respect, and belonging are experienced by everyone.

Why Reconciliation Matters at Our School

Reconciliation is central to who we are as a school community. By embedding respect, cultural awareness, and inclusivity in everything we do, we ensure that every student feels valued, safe, and supported in their learning journey.

Our goal is simple: to play our part in building a future where all cultures are respected, all voices are heard, and every child has the opportunity to thrive.
